RISEN GARDEN
Our design, The Risen Garden, aims to enhance the Sheldon Art Museum by connecting it to the adjacent Sculpture Garden. We decided to integrate our design into the existing Sculpture Garden to complement the existing building. The Sculpture Garden, which is part of the city's botanical garden system, is currently underutilized and underperforming. Our new design will make the site more accessible, especially for students and the public who frequent the area. Our added lush greenery will improve the site's identification as a botanical garden.
The Risen Garden pays homage to the original Art Gallery in its design. We incorporated elements from the museum's formal grid, and the fluted facade paneling mimics the travertine marble used in the building. We understand the importance of preserving the Sheldon Art Gallery, a modernist Greek Temple with a pristine white marble facade. Our intervention aims to honor and emphasize its beauty without damaging the existing building.
